SEWING: leather messenger bag

As an apprentice at a small leather goods studio in Brooklyn, NY this summer, I learned how to prep, dye, and process leather to create high-quality original designs. (Though this bag isn’t my own design, I dyed, processed, and sewed it myself.)

Would you ever try your hand at leather? It’s not as intimidating as it seems!

Stay curious,

  1. This is a very beautiful bag. Would you tell me where the pattern is from?
I just bought yesterday a beautiful piece of green leather and can’t find a nice pattern. This one seems almost perfect for my project!

  2. You have done a very nice job on the messenger bag. I know first hand that the instruction sheet that came with it leave a LOT to be desired. Make a copy of the pattern before you assemble your next project. Keep doing leather projects and you’ll be surprised how quickly your skills improve.
